Located in San Bruno, CA, InQuira offers a suite of applications
designed to optimize user experience when conducting natural language
search. As an intern at InQuira, you will be working with a team of
linguists who have years of experience applying computational linguistic
theory to solve real-world problems.

You may choose to work on one of the following projects:

1. Concept discovery
InQuira search depends on an ontology of concepts, some of which are
provided with the out of the box product and some of which must be
created for an individual application. This customization process can be
accelerated with a concept discovery tool which analyzes content for
product names and other concepts specific to a customer's application.
Your task will be to review the existing Java code this tool is written
in, develop a testing strategy for evaluating its effectiveness, and
either modify the existing code or write new code to improve and
productize the tool.

2. Text classification
InQuira provides our customers with the means to organize content into a
hierarchy of categories, which then can be used to enhance the user's
search experience. Your task will be to develop a schema for determining
an appropriate set of topics for a diverse set of content types
including emails, forum entries, and knowledge base articles. You will
create a tool in Java code which automatically classifies the content by
topic, and demonstrate its effectiveness using a training set and a
testing strategy you have created.

3. Frequently asked question and answer discovery
InQuira customer content typically includes a set of FAQs about their
products and services which are accessed via search by both
company-internal and external users. It is useful to be able to mine
existing content to create new FAQs; this content may include forums,
websites, case histories, and product documentation. Your task will be
to create a tool in Java code which extracts content for question and
answer pairs, and develop a testing strategy which demonstrates its
effectiveness.
