Slice — Software Engineer

Title:Software Engineer
Type:Job
Brief Description:Consumer-focused NLP (Japanese)
Company:Slice
Location:CA, USA
Posted On:Nov 25, 2013
Application Deadline:
More Information:
I’m with a small high tech-focused recruiting firm in the SF Bay Area, and we
have been retained to find a unique candidate for a really hot start up here in
the bay area. The company is called Slice (www.slice.com) and was founded by a
group of Stanford grads in Palo Alto, CA. They are funded by ex-Google CEO Eric
Schmidt among others. They just raised over $20 Million in funding to take the
already successful consumer-focused company to the next level in enterprise Big
Data.

As part of this transition, they have partnered with Rakuten in Japan and need
to adapt their current software and algorithms to work with Japanese language.
Because of this, we are trying to find them an experienced Java engineer that
has experience with Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning. The
candidate would also need to be familiar with the Japanese language as they will
be working with it on a day to day basis. Fluency is not required, but knowledge
with structures and grammar is a must.

Michael seemed to think you might be able to access an internal job board or an
alumni network. If that’s the case, here are the key points of the
opportunity:

- Strong server side Java experience (3+ years)

- Experience with Machine learning and applying NLP algorithms to text
(doing this with Japanese text would be ideal)

- Some knowledge of the Japanese language. Fluency would be great, but
not required.

- Able to work in the San Francisco Bay Area (working remote is a
possibility, but being in the office would be ideal)

I’ll also attach a full job description below. Any help with this would be
greatly appreciated! Please have any interested parties contact me at

Thank you for your help,
Michael
