Applications are invited for a PhD position in the area of text simplification
and text summarization. The candidate is expected to be actively involved in a
research project while carrying out his/her PhD research.
The research will be carried out at the Natural Language Processing research
group (TALN) in Barcelona under the supervision of Dr. Horacio Saggion.
Brief Description of Work
The candidate will be involved in research activities related to multilingual
text simplification and at the same time develop his/her own research in the
area of text simplification and summarization.
Qualifications:
Applicants should have:
*** a MsC in computer science, artificial intelligence, or computational
linguistics
*** Knowledge of machine-learning and rule-based approaches
*** Knowledge of the JAVA programming language.
Additionally:
*** Knowledge of the GATE system will be we’ll appreciated
*** Highly motivated individual with experience or interest in the area of
automatic text simplification and/or summarization.
Language requirements:
· *** good knowledge of English
Starting date:
The position is expected to start early March/April 2015.
Educational level required:
Msc Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Artificial Intelligence.
Salary and duration of the contract
We offer a gross salary of €12000 per year which can be complemented with
teaching if desired. Social security will be covered by the employer.
The duration of the contract will be of 36 months (initially, a probation
12-months contract).
